olga

My name is Olga Lucia Salgado. I was born in Cali (Colombia), a city that Colombians know as the “capital of salsa”.
Being Colombian means that I grew up in a culture where dancing is a very important part of life.
Although the country and its people face a lot of challenges related to being a country still in development, Colombia has been recognised many times in surveys as the happiest country in the world.
I don’t have any doubt in my mind that one of the reasons is that people dance and listen to these happy songs all the time.
Every time that I dance a Cumbia in Zumba, I feel very proud of being Colombian and very happy too – even happier when I see how the people in the different classes enjoy this wonderful rhythm, which has now spread around many countries due to Zumba.
I started working from home a couple of years ago, and that prompted a need to do some frequent exercises to maintain and improve my fitness.
I have tried, as many of you have, the gym and walking through different paths, and while all of these were very good it was very hard to keep myself on track doing exercise.
One day my husband showed me that in Heatherside community centre were some Zumba classes.
I knew that the music would be wonderful, but I was not sure if I would enjoy the exercises.
I called Sveta the following Monday (that was a year ago), and since then I have been doing my best to attend all 4 classes per week that she offers at night.
I started with the Zumba ones and soon after I realised that she also has a FitSteps class, which I also enjoy as I have never before danced most of those type of rhythm.
Then she started toning, which brings other type of exercises to the body that really make my package of exercise for the whole week. However, I have to admit that my favourite classes are Zumba fitness on Thursday nights.
There are some days that I feel like the only thing that I want to do is to stay on the sofa relaxing, but I know that if I go to Zumba I would feel less exhausted and a lot happier after the class.
I would feel tired due to the exercise, but that is a more satisfying tiredness. It has a strange (but good!) effect on me, but I am sure it is explained by all the endorphins that the body produces while we are exercising with Zumba.
I love that everybody that goes to the classes does it for different purposes and at all levels, which means that each one of us just wants to be better from what we were the previous day, and feeling great is what matters.
The Dance4ever community led by Sveta is great as well. I feel very welcomed by everybody.
I love being part of that community and taking part in any activity that she organises.
I also admire all the energy and enthusiasm and motivation that Sveta adds to each of all of her classes.
I think that after this year I have only wonderful memories, I have met great people that I enjoy meeting each time and of course I am getting fitter every day. So I want to thank Sveta for all of her dedication to make our classes so enjoyable and for keeping a nice community around the whole thing.
