My first introduction to Zumba was four years ago, following a leaflet drop in Sandhurst. My daughter wanted to lose weight after the birth of her second child and, having broken my leg earlier in the year, I agreed to try it with her in the hope that it would improve muscle strength in this, now weakened, leg.

I struggled, however, with Zumba fitness and it was suggested that I try Zumba Gold. I really enjoyed this class and increased my sessions to twice a week.

Two years ago, our instructor decided on pastures new and so I needed to find a new class. Fortunately a fellow member had found a newly opened Zumba Gold class (Sveta: Dance4Ever) in Frogmore and I went along and had a great time. Gradually through telephone calls and word of mouth etc, members of our old class joined, and so it grew.

Sveta was so enthusiastic and encouraging that I decided to give ‘Fitsteps’ a try as a second class. Following this ‘Gold Toning’ seemed a good idea, and finally I tried PIYO.

I try to do these classes every week. I don’t have a favourite, however I admit to finding PIYO the most challenging.

Everyone I have met has been friendly, and it is always fun despite being hard work at times !!!

The extra workshops give an opportunity to try new things e.g. Fitsteps FAB, Zumba Core, Zumba Sentao and Bollywood, as well as meeting members from other classes and enjoying a social gathering.

The real joy for me is that it ticks all the boxes. It is fun, friendly, offers exercise, is ‘non-judgemental’, and Sveta always appears to make us feel that our class is the only one that day.
